Why form Roby House Alumni FOundation?
Although the Madison A Better Chance program has been in existence for the past 40 years, there has not been an alumni group soley based on creating additional support for scholars once they leave the program. RHAF actively takes a role and interest from freshman year through graduation, keeping the scholar engaged with A Better Chance beyond graduation. Tax-deductible, non-profit corporations involve a lot more paperwork and administrative work.
The primary reasons for forming an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization were:
Longevity: RHAF wanted to raise scholarship funds for scholars headed to college. A go-fund me account would have been an easier route, however a more formal approach would ensure that not only scholarships but mentorships and networking will be available for years to come.
Long-Term Funding: Donors considering a contribution prefer to donate to a 501(c)(3) non-profit because they are tax-deductible. Non-profits are also legally required to make their tax records public information. People considering making bequests in their wills and life insurance policies prefer to make such donations to non-profit corporations.
Are donations to Roby House Alumni Foundation Tax-Deductible?
Yes. RHAF has IRS approval as a federal 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations made to RHAF are federally tax-deductible in the United States.
Can someone that isn’t an alumni of the Madison ABC program Alumni Donate to the RHAF?
